I have an old ceiling fan with three 60 watt light bulb sockets. Lately, one of the sockets burns out new bulbs right away. Thread does not match very well and can't screw bulb in very far. Could I try a long lasting fluorescent bulb? Or should I first try to force the thread to accept bulb completely?

You could try replacing the socket first. It's possible that years of using high-wattage bulbs may have warped the threads of the shell from heat.
You can also try using fan-rated bulbs in the socket. They last longer than regular ones because the filament is designed to withstand the vibration caused from fan movement.

I’m installing a ceiling fan in room with no existing ceiling fixture box, but there is a wall switch to control an outlet. How do I wire the switch to make it control the fan instead?

First, you'll have to make sure that the switch box contains a neutral wire, not just a switch loop; otherwise you won't be able to do it.

Next, you'll have to install a wire from the switch to the ceiling outlet location to power the fan. Be sure to use a fan rated box, otherwise it may fall off the ceiling.

If you're installing a fan/light combination fixture, you should run a 3-wire cable to the ceiling box, which would allow you to switch the fan and the light separately. Make sure whatever cable you run is of the same gauge size as the wiring in the switch box.

How would I replace a ceiling light fixture with one that could be re-positioned over the table if the table is moved?

Use a fixture with a swag chain attachment.
